Cartoon 910: History Lesson

    After the Depression until the
    1970s no politician at the State
    or national level could be
    elected without courting Labor
    or viewed not as antagonistic.

    The labor movement of unions
    held sway. It ensured workers
    rights and compensation.
    The majority of the middle
    class was blue collar. They
    voted Democrat.

    Republicans destroyed or
    marginalize them and unions
    killed themselves not embracing
    the new knowledge workers.
    As unions went, so went the
    middle class.
