Cartoon 935: Hi Ho
Trump made campaign promises. He has religiously executed those promises. Many of those promises were so outlandish that we foolishly thought if he was elected he would abandon them and become more main stream pragmatic. We have been proved wrong.
One campaign promise we have over looked is his promise to go to war with Iran. This was even before he got the nomination. The promise was made to the American oil industry, Netanyahu and confirmed with the new Saudi prince. I wonder if the appointment of the new Saudi prince was coincidental with Trump’s election? The previous Saudi strategy was to keep oil rates so low that the American oil industry was strangled. The new prince has done a 180 degree turn and orchestrated raised rates we have not seen in nearly a decade.
To go to war Trump needed to stop fighting with ISIS. That is done. He needed to disentangle himself from Syria. That has happened. We gave it to Putin as well as Ukraine (likely another campaign promise). He needed an end game with North Korea. He thought to do that with a summit. It became clear he could never win the perception war with a North Korean summit. He has now washed his hands playing the maybe yes, maybe no game. He is downplaying Iraq and Afghanistan in the public mind.
He finally needs to back Iran up against the wall to precipitate an incident leading to war. He started by first disavowing the Iranian nuclear Agreement. The next step is to put devastating sanctions in place. He will threaten Allies with tariffs if they ignore or circumvent his position.
