Sometimes I wish for Mr. Spock of Star Trek fame to inundate our politicians with logic. Nuclear power is a solution to our energy needs whose time has not yet arrived. Especially here in America we focus on the immediate. We manage our businesses quarter to quarter. Our politicians focus on what is for the moment popular and the next election. Our finances are basically day-to-day. This short term approach has disastrous longer term consequences.

The big issue with nuclear power is the radioactive waste that must be kept for a 1000 years. We have an abysmal record of managing toxic waste. There should be a moratorium on nuclear power until the technology is available to recycle nuclear waste. The proliferation of nuclear plants raises the possibility of a nuclear accident or extensive environmental damage.
