Cartoon 669: Can’t WiFi a package We have great national pride in our abilities, particularity in communication technology. Our focus on that success obscures fundamental inadequacies. Try sending a package or something physical over WiFi. We are a nation on the world stage without a second act. Here is a test. Turn on the faucet in your home. Flush the toilet. Go to the refrigerator and open the door. Step outside and take a walk on the street. Visit your local hospital emergency room. Put out the trash. Turn on the television. In each case, if you think about it, you can probably remember municipal issues with the items represented. The faucet represents the water distribution infra-structure in the ground. Flushing the toilet makes use of the sewage system. Opening the refrigerator door represents a critical need of the electric grid. Taking a walk gives an opportunity to evaluate the conditions of the road and transportation systems. Going to the emergency room and seeing the crowded conditions is a graphic representation of the state of healthcare. A very critical feature of society is waste management. Putting out the trash is a reminder. Turning on the television and watching for an extended period of time allows you to see the level of intellectual interest based on age and socio-economic factors. These things taken in totality suggest ”…we are in deep doo doo”. |
