Cartoon 687: Naïve Americans are by their very nature intellectually lazy. They rely on packaged bits of information from the media. They garble this “fast food” diet without looking at the ingredients. Some things are “spin” or manipulation of the facts. Some things are so unbelievable you discard them out of hand. The true nature of America’s nuclear policy is case in point. It is a fact in unclassified Congressional records America has provided nuclear capabilities to other nations outside agreed auspices of the international community. These activities when they occurred, were a “now you see it, now you don’t in the media”. The government quickly shut down the media. A prime example today is that the IAEA (International Atomic Energy Agency) last week announced discovery of enriched uranium at a site in Egypt. Egypt had at one time been developing a nuclear bomb. Supposedly that effort was stopped long ago. The question now is was it? A bigger question that is being hushed up is the source of the enriched uranium. Processed Uranium has a unique signature that can be traced back to the processing plant. Guess where the trial will likely lead. All this is big news and a continuing saga in the international media. In America it has largely faded away. Another dichotomy of American nuclear policy, beyond proliferating nuclear technology by giving it away, is precipitating a nuclear arms race. We have announced we are upgrading our nuclear arsenal. If we upgrade ours, other nuclear powers will be forced to upgrade theirs. I am waiting for some international reporter, possibly European, to break a story that Saudi Arabia has nuclear weapons. I highly suspect they do because Prince Bandar would have seen to it. Again, it is probably something the rest of the world knows and the American public does not. It would have to be a foreign reporter breaking the story. An American reporter would likely be barred from publishing such a story under “The States Secret Act”. |
