Cartoon 691: Marriage Women today are facing a harder time in relationships. Marriage is an allusive goal in American society. Females are out distancing males in both secondary and higher education. They are starting to out distance men in the lower middle economic level. This gap in achievement between men and women is even reflected in the movies. The Harrison Ford movie, “Random Hearts”, immediately comes to mind. The background in the plot glossed over a decided socio-economic mismatch in the marriage. Women are finding themselves as the primary bread winner in relationships. Males expect women to work and also be their personal “Geshia”. Women have to sort through males that are near-do-wills, drug users, petty criminals, and with questionable sexual desires to increase the possibility of marriage. Often these males already have children and continuing dubious previous relationships. In desperation, some women are having to be a “live-in” first before marriage to try to seal the deal. Once married, they face a divorce rate of over 50%. Marriage is an uphill battle for women. The last thing they want is something they have to work so hard to achieve diluted. |
