Cartoon 723: The Package When we talk about processing, even with super computers, we are in the range of a “petaflop” (1015) of FLoating point Operations Per Second. Flops are a measure of speed. Yale University estimates the human brain at 100 petaflops. There are two components to consider. The other component is storage. The human brain is estimated to have a storage capacity of 500 to 1,000 terabytes. A terabyte is 1012 . The largest hard disks for PCs today store about 2 terabytes. The most logical method to preserve information down through the ages is to embed it in the recipient. Perhaps within the human brain is stored a wealth of information that has been archived by an advance civilization. The information is propogated with each birth. Maybe one day we will reach a level to be able access the information in the human brain. |
