Cartoon 724: Interwoven Wars have been fought over religion. Some of the bloodiest have been over interpretations or leadership within the same religion. Power is in the control of the interpretation of doctrine. Therefore, the most effective approach to control is to isolate a religion or religious faction from competing interpretations. Ignorance is then put forth as a virtue. What really separates the major monotheist religions? In essence, very little. They all seek enlightenment and salvation. They differ in the voices guiding enlightenment and sacred tenants. But they all share a common morality; “do unto others as you would have them do unto you”, injustice must be addressed, and the disadvantaged cared for. The joke could be on us. Suppose we are down here killing each other only to meet again in heaven. |
