Cartoon 725: Blind

When we use hindsight we now see the storm clouds that gathered to create the storm that has caught us. We were apathetic to the changing weather. As Americans our attention is on domestic politics, the oil spill, and the deficit. We ignore the ominous clouds that have formed.

Any new provocative act by North Korea must be met with overwhelming force. Failure to do so and North Korea will continue to escalate its actions. But there is a very delicate line. Any response could trigger all out war and a million North Korean troops surging south. The numbers would be too great to be stopped by any conventional methods. America’s only option, if it does not abandon its South Korean ally, will be nuclear weapons. North Korea will in turn retaliate with nuclear weapons. There will be wide spread devastation. The radiation will create collateral damage in China, Russia and Japan.

Most Americans do not realize that we face Chinese troops at the Korean border, even after all these decades. A confrontation will instantly involve China. If America fails to aid South Korea, the world will take note. It will further confirm America is an untrustworthy ally. The Asian countries will flock to the Chinese as an umbrella of protection. African and Middle Eastern countries will as well. They will feel more secure under Chinese power.

The CIA, the Pentagon, and the State Department are burning the mid-night oil running simulations of possible North Korean actions. But it all boils down to one thing. If they respond to a North Korean action, they had better make it an instant all out activity. They will have to throw everything including the kitchen sink. It will have to be total nuclear annihilation.
