Cartoon 772 Raising the Bar

Media, such as the Economist magazine and the Wall Street Journal, recommend Black females seek marriage opportunities outside their race to improve their opportunities.

I was taken back by a full page advertisement in last Sunday’s section of the Washington Post newspaper for Macy’s Department Store. The advertisement featured a White male and a pleasant featured dark chocolate complexioned Black woman cheek-to-cheek. I wonder was the advertisement only in specific locales the newspaper served? I imagine even in this “cosmopolitan” suburban area it would not go over very well. Perhaps we are being subliminally conditioned to embrace such unions.

Often the Black wife of prominent White men remain in the back ground. Examples: former Secretary of Defense William Cohen, Actor Robert De Niro, and Peter Norton of Norton Anti-virus.

The facts are that the pickings for Black women within their race is abysmal. Many of the Black males have had felony convictions, not as educated then their potential counterparts, and less achievement motivated. It is not all their fault. The Black male’s opportunities in society are marginalized relative to males of other races. The Black males have a low incident of marrying. In too many cases they treat their women badly. The more desirable Black males are in very, very short supply. The competition among females is intense for these males and Black females also have to compete with females of other races for these men.

The bar will be raised for the Black males, if Black women start to marry outside of their race in increasing numbers. I wonder if this will be a bad thing?
