Cartoon 774: Next Act

There is an old saying, ‘monkey see, monkey do”. The meaning is imitation of what is observed. This seems to apply to America’s imitation of acts performed by Israel. If Israel performs an act and weathers international outrage, then America will do it next. These acts always involve disavowing justice and human rights.

I think America has as in gambling, “double downed” on Israel. An example is the rush of Congressional politicians to Israel from both political parties to pledge allegiance at the end of 2011. In time America will find itself in the same position it was in with South Africa in the 1980s. The world and the American people condemned it while the American politicians and businesses lagged. The international and domestic pressure eventually got so great that America was forced to distance itself politically.

The excesses of Israel are ignored or considered to be justified in America today. If it were an Arab country performing the same acts, we would condemn it loudly. It would top the list of despotic nations above Iran or Syria. It is little wonder why America cannot broker a peace in the middle east. Everything must be to the unequivocal advantage of Israel.

Israel has no need to seriously participate in any peace process. It has the 5th most power modern military in the world, nuclear weapons, and America behind it. The biggest issue with Iran having a nuclear capability is that it will be able to counterbalance Israel and America’s ultimate threat. It would also result in other Arab nations seeking nuclear capability and totally destabilizing Israel’s unassailable position. If we were truly concerned about radical nuclear actions our focus would be pretty much exclusively on North Korea. North Korea is the domino that has the ability to totally bring down the international system of things.

In the newspaper yesterday was reported Israel is about to attack Iran, despite American Administration objections. The Republicans are behind it. It is part of their play for the White House. An attack by Israel and Iran’s reaction will cause economic chaos in America. The weak economic recovery will completely fail, and so will the chances of the incumbent in the White House.

Sounds familiar, they tried it with the 2000 presidential election and gave Georgia a green light to provoke a Russian attack. They figured America would then gravitate in the elections to the strongest military candidate, McCain.
