Cartoon 787: Rule the World
“…what a tangled web we weave…” [Sir Walter Scott]
With power comes the ability to shape the game. America acquired the power and shaped the game among nations. It devised a series of institutions that others must subscribe, while retaining the keys. In cases where their absolute control is less certain, like now the United Nations, the domestic call is to pick up the marbles and go home or exit.
Most populations around the world seldom raise their eyes beyond their day-to-day travails. The bureaucratic machinations that happen internationally are merely a curiosity, if noticed. But that changed significantly with the financial crisis and the continuing fallout. In Europe and Scandinavia the masses are being confronted with financial upheaval. The angst is being caused by quasi American institutions. Make no mistake, the people know America pulls the strings. So far their anger has been directed at their politicians that subscribe to the game, because they play even though it makes no real sense and is not in their best interests. They must stay in the game to retain international relevence.
At some point the anger is going to be directed back to the source, America. The clock is ticking on the dominos of America’s unassailable preeminence.
