Cartoon 792: The Nation

This nation was modeled after the Greek concept “Democracy”. But in America people fail to realize the concept of “Democracy” never envisioned the including of all in a society. The American Founding Fathers also never envisioned the inclusion of all in society as equal participants. The Founding Fathers and their supporters were the privileged patricians of their time. They had absolutely no intention of allowing the plebeians to control government.

To that end, they created a series of government processes and layers that effectively insured their class retained control. Since only landed aristocracy could accede to office, positions were kept among themselves. An example of a layer is that the Electoral College trumps the popular vote. This is what happened in the Presidential election of 2000. Al Gore won the popular vote of the people and George Bush was awarded the electoral college votes. Another is the Federal and Supreme Courts. The judges can only be nominated by a President and confirmed by Congress. A pre-requisite for Congress was being part of the landed aristocracy. Now it is the monied elite or those anointed by the monied elite. I guess you wonder about Abe Lincoln or Truman? In both cases they had to have the blessings of the American aristocracy. The American aristocracy switches back and forth among parties. This is to raise the bar on the largess expected of political candidates for their support or to advance a specific desire.

The Depression ushered in “populism”. The American aristocracy was fearful, that the socialism that was sweeping the world, would consume America and cause the government to fall. If the government fell, so would their wealth and power. They decided to give up some of their purgatives to keep this from happening. The result was “The New Deal”. But before the New Deal, the aristocracy had ones of their own turn on them. Teddy Roosevelt was a defector with his trust busting, income taxes to try to redistribute some of the American wealth, and placing large amounts of land off limits in a public trust of preserves and parks. The other Roosevelt, Franklin D., was also considered a traitor to his class. Eleanor Roosevelt was considered a catastrophe.

The American aristocracy has firmed up its multi-generational nature through education at the most exclusive schools [alumni preference], fraternalism, and wealth transfer. The goal of these people has always been a return of the Gilead Age and their absolute control over the wealth of the nation and its creation. They realized that a frontal attack would not work in turning back populism. Instead they took a measured approach. They worked a ground war taking back the institutions that arbitrate or administer power. Their great success has reached a tipping point. They can throw off subterfuge and mount a full blown attack of “shock and awe”. Things have progressed so well that their victory is unassailable through the system of things.

We keep hearing from Conservatives that class warfare is an abomination proffered by liberals. Who represents the aristocracy? This is “the pot calling the kettle black”.
