Cartoon 796: Headlights
I saw in the newspaper some Congressional politician exalting America’s “rule of law”. Question: what about circumstances where the rule of law is unjust? The rule of law in South Africa for example during Apartheid or even closer to home, America during segregation? Throughout history those in power have legitimated their disingenuous actions by legality.
Today the rules of law in America are crafted and enforced by the very rich and their henchmen. Most Americans cannot see the forest for the tree they have pressed against their nose. They are blissfully blind like lemmings headed over a cliff. The only axiom is power will always seek more power. In this case power is wealth. Their increasing wealth comes from the classes below them. Today it seems it is the poor and modest income people being gobbled up to feed their interests. But you can bet it will not stop there. They will stab up the food chain with the control they will receive in the coming elections. People believing they are safe because of their ideology, race, or current income will be in for a shock. They are blinded by the light of issue words and not seeing the real landscape.
At some point, as has happened to nations throughout history, a critical nexus will occur. The realization will dawn that the system of things is not your system and is designed to enslave. It is accomplished through overt “rule of law” and subversive “gentlemen’s agreements”. The gentlemen’s agreements are a verbal understanding among the powerful of how things must be. The strife to follow will rival the uprisings of the Middle East. Those in power will use all their means to maintain the status quo, the entire might of the State. On the other side there will be suicide attacks, bombings, and purges. The numbers are on their side. The weapons and means of control are in the hands of those in charge. It will be a blood bath and likely long struggle. Time is not on the side of the powerful. A protracted conflict will be their downfall. Their actions will touch more and more people and increase the ranks of people committed to an overthrow.
There is such a thing as “fate”. The path is set and nothing will change that. Most certainly not the American democratic system.
