Cartoon 797: Look Out

Sometimes we fail to appreciate what is happening right before our eyes. There were powerful interests, such as the CIA, that wanted George Bush senior president (few people today remember the national panic surrounding the oil embargo). George Bush senior had been the Director of the CIA. The first time around he failed to get the nomination. He came close the second time, but Reagan won the nomination. Reagan was an enigma, like Mitt. Powerful interests were able to orchestrate getting George Bush senior as Reagan’s vice presidential candidate.

There were a lot of assassinations during that time, Martin Luther King, John and Bobby Kennedy. Reagan had not been in office long when he came very close to being assassinated. My first thought immediately at the time was something orchestrated by the CIA. It was a lot of carnage that miraculously missed his termination. I think they gave up with the failure and decided to watch and wait.

There are no bounds when powerful factions want something to happen. Money is the driving motivator. The richest 1% imagine going from billionaires to trillionaires with the right political environment. Of course that means throwing about 90% of the nation “under the bus”. They see their wealth as a “divine right”. In order to have the right political environment, they must have the right kinds of people in the key positions. People who are either deluded or amoral. That brings us to Mitt, a person bought up in the Mormon tradition. The big question for the richest 1% is if his ethics will win out and thwart or impede their activities once in office. Do you think they are willing to take the risk?
