Cartoon 825: Sand Running Out

We are witnessing all the rethinking about “Big Brother” since the Edward Snowden revelations. But try to imagine the political and cultural impact if he had released creditable evidence of intelligent aliens.

First to reel would be religion. It would hit American Evangelist and other staid orthodoxies very hard. Where do you place this life in theology? True to form, there will be answers from religious sects all over the map.

Second will be economics. An economic system’s goal is the efficient allocation of resources. Whatever system the Aliens use to accomplish this goal will dramatically impact our economic philosophy.

Third would be the upset over believed benefits secretly received by the knowledge. It would throw decades of scientific achievement and Nobel prizes in doubt.

Fourth would be government. Its purpose is to manage the aspects of society. Aliens would present an alternative to our current schemes. Apropos given our recent government shenanigans.

I have watched numerous times when an idea was orchestrated to be publicly accepted. Ideas that were at their onset totally unpalatable. I now see a rapid move to condition people to the idea of extra terrestrial life being a reality.

Why the rush?
