Cartoon 848: Inevitable

The Thomas Piketty's book, “Capital in the Twenty-First Century”, is causing quite a stir. It is not the first time an economic criticism of Capitalism has been published. What is different is the receptiveness of an audience. The book arguers that the normalcy of capitalism is expansive inequality. In America the progressive programs of the 1930s was an aberration.

I have said over and over that Americans today have no clue how close, America like other countries, was headed communist. Do you believe the rich gave up prerogatives out of the goodness of their hearts? They were in absolute panic. They gave up as little as possible to keep their capitalism viable in America.

There is nothing moral about business. Any action that is perceived moral is a mechanism tied to profits. If a big business could increase profits by throwing people in a furnace, it would not hesitate. If there was a loud out cry, politicians would quickly rally. They would assert business has a right to make profits, the corporate leadership has a responsibility to pursue profits and it is the American way.

This time around the rich have a lot of good cards to forcefully reject equality change. Our whole history and acquaintance are on social media like FaceBook. The rich own the courts, law enforcement and judges. They have all our phone and email communications, they only need pass a law for access through their owned politicians. They control our finances through credit and banking. They can easily legislate a law making any criticism an act of terrorism.

Today we criticize the Middle East bombers, tomorrow…?
