The internet was started as a method of communication among academic institutions and research facilities. An offshoot was inquisitiveness resulting in utilities and applications. But when business took note things changed. Business was dragged on to the internet by the competition of nibble startups nipping away. Even then business resisted online as a primary channel as long as possible. Now business embraces it whole heartedly. In electronic commerce businesses see a way to reduce operations costs and increase profit.

The latest announced data breech is Home Depot. Businesses are under no mandate to announce breeches. All the major announced breeches were discovered and announced by third parties. Once announced, businesses have to scramble to do public damage control. It begs the question how many unannounced breeches are there? The answer is probably 90% of all nontraditional data centric major businesses. The real extent is probably a State secret. It would greatly adversely affect the utilization of the electronic commerce.

The Government nor business wants you to know that there is no absolute safe electronic commerce or an across the board method to make it so.
