Cartoon 861: Interred

We see through a glass darkly. Things that should be clear are obscured. We have a willful blindness. It was recently in the media that documents now being released indicate we employed a thousand Nazis to spy on the Soviet Union. At least one was an acknowledged war criminal. We know and do not acknowledge the fact that many of the Nazi scientist and engineering we bought here after WWII were Nazis directly involved in war crimes.

We have been willfully blind to the actions of the CIA, the military and American big business. They have committed unimaginable crimes. They get away because we are such a powerful nation that out cries can be silenced. We have killed and maimed on a vast scale. Who is the largest employer of land mines? Who is the only major country that refused to sign the international moratorium? The United States is not a member of the World Court. The United States required exemptions from the individual key Western nations for any war crimes before the Invasion of Iraq. Therefore the atrocities have no vehicle for world attention.

On a relative scale we have killed and maimed more civilians than all the drug lords combined. The American public has a willful blindness to our actions. The rest of the world is not so blind and is merely biting its tongue.
