Cartoon 875: Are you sure?
We often like to think we are masters of the game. But Statehood is not a game of checkers. Statehood is multi-level chess. Applying the methodology of anticipated action and reaction breaks down in the complexity. The axiom, “my enemy’s enemy, is my friend”, has failed in the real world countless times. More apply true is yesterday’s Ally is today’s enemy. Look at the allegiances that have changed over the centuries.
A case in point is America before World War I. Americans were predisposed to dislike the British. Even at the advent of World War II the American public was split on supporting the British or the Germans. The deciding factor was Pearl Harbor, “the friend of my enemy is my enemy”.
It seems appropriate you do not throw the gates open wide and invite a divisive force in. Their real agenda maybe not to your liking.
