Go back a few generations and everything that was to be known was embodied in church members. This was especially true of the Black church. The members shared before and after sermons and during church events. It was primarily a matriarchal arrangement. When church service was over, people would sometimes continue to congregate an hour or more socializing. Some even adjourned to brunch at someone’s home or went to an eatery.

Our current love affair with social media is only the electronic version of what already existed. The existing social media was the purview of the more mature. The electronic social media is the vista of the young. The older social media was a bit more judicious with information. The electronic version tends to be a drive-by billboard.
